How can we optimise the local music licencing offer and be more effective at satisfying market demand while promoting ease of use and transparency of copyright?
You are hereby invited to join the Creative Cluster of Luxinnovation for a brainstorming and networking session on music rights management on 20 September 2023 at the Luxinnovation building in Belval.
This event is organised based on this general and recurrent feedback from the music, broadcasting, marketing, film and general audio-visual content production industries: Luxembourg needs a collaborative platform for registering & licencing locally produced music.
Once music is released, it often gets put in a drawer, never to be seen again. Music producers are supported to create the music but do not have the tools or resources to deal with the distribution and to create value from their catalogues. On the other hand, sectors that use music in their value chain have a tough time discovering locally produced music and often do not have all the metadata needed to identify the owners of the copyright.
It is also quite difficult for local artists and music catalogues to be visible on international platforms due to the limited critical mass of local music streaming. This is why a local solution is needed.
Luxinnovation could act as a neutral party between stakeholders of the ecosystem and help its players to fill this gap. One recommendation could be working together on an existing solution or creating a database of existing solutions for the market to choose from. There is no fixed solution yet in mind. That is why your input as an important stakeholder of the ecosystem is required.
Our hope is that this meeting will result in a partnership to create and manage such a platform. Luxinnovation could contribute to this new partnership in a support capacity to apply for public subsidies and investments. Even if you do not think that your organisation would be interested in getting involved in such a project, your input is still extremely valuable for the music sector.
